Band Of Brothers is an HBO/BBC 10-part miniseries. It takes place in World War 2 all over Europe. The story focuses on Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. From the invasion of Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest, the men of Easy Company were there. Band Of Brothers depicts the real life stories of men who parachuted behind enemy lines and their courage on the battlefield.
Executive producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg both contributed to this $120,000,000 mammoth undertaking. $17,000,000 of the 120 million were spent on construction and on the set. The set, The Hatfield Aerodrome in Hertfordshire England, offered 1000 acres where the set was continuosly modified to look like 11 different European cities. All of the civilian costumes were authentic vintage clothing and the 2,000 German and American military uniforms were created or purchased with exact military specifications. Around 700 authentic weapons were used in production along with reproduced American Sherman tanks and German Tiger tanks.
Band Of Brothers is based on the 1992 Stephen E. Ambrose book. A great novel that tells the stories of the veterans of E. Company in their own words. Their narritives tells the amazing stories from the front lines and the sacrifices they did for one another. They vividly explain past experiences, including their battles in the Ardennes forest in Belgium, where the Germans placed their last offensive. The members of Easy recounts what it was like to live through war, a tragic time where fellow comrades and friends drop from enemy fire.
The title of Band Of Brothers (and Stephen E. Ambrose's book) comes from William Shakespere's "Henry V":
"From this day to the ending of the world,
...we in it shall be remembered
...we band of brothers."
